Nokia N9 MeeGo smartphone for those not impressed with Windows Phone 7

In the middle of the night Nokia announced its first MeeGo handset proving that it’s not all Windows Phone, Windows Phone for the Finnish company. The new model, dubbed the Nokia N9, is “built for people who appreciate a stunning blend of design and the latest smartphone technology,”

        Gunning for the catchphrase “All it takes is a swipe” the buttonless smartphone will feature a 3.9-inch (854x480) AMOLED scratch-resistant curved glass screen and a polycarbonate body for “superior antenna performance” with Nokia reminding us that “This means better reception, better voice quality and fewer dropped calls.”

        Without any buttons or a dedicated home screen, it’s all about swiping your way around the interface a bit like the BlackBerry PlayBook, and this version of MeeGosports three home views of theuser interface are designed to give fast access to the most important things people do with a phone:using apps, staying up to date with notifications and social networks, and switching between activities.      

The Nokia N9 also packs the latest in camera, navigation and audio technology. That means an 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss autofocus sensor, wide-angle lens, HD-quality video capture and large lens aperture for low light conditions , GPS and on the music front Dolby Digital Plus decoding and Dolby Headphone post-processing technology.

On the connectivity front you get NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), 3G and HDPDA connectivity.
Other specs include 1GB RAM, an ARM Cortex-A8 OMAP3630 1Ghz processor, and a talk time of 11 hours and 450 hours of standby. Video playback is around 4.5 hours and music a whopping 50 hours.
The Nokia N9 will be available in three colours - black, cyan, and magenta - with storage options to accommodate plenty of content; 16GB and 64GB.
