Australian mechanical engineer Chris Malloy has designed a really cool functioning Hoverbike that is classed as an ultralite in the United States so no pilot’s license is required. Measuring 9.8ft long by 4.3ft wide and 1.8ft high (3m x 1.3m x 0.55m), the Hoverbike has space for a driver/pilot and gets its lift from two fiber-blade two-blade propellers.

Behaving in concept like a tandem-bladed Chinook helicopter, with contra-rotating torque canceling lift-blades driven by a carbon-fiber driveshaft; control is via a motorcycle-like handlebar providing a range of movement.

Power comes from a 4-stroke 1,170cc 80kW (107hp) of power to the propellers, with Malloy reporting a possible10,000ft ceiling and a top speed of 150 knots (173mph, or 278km/h). Range is 92 miles (148km) at 80 knots (92mph. 148km/h) from the 30liter (7.9 US gallon). Safety features include triple redundancy in the engine and drivetrain and the pilot can wear an emergency parachute if all else fails.
